Becoming a Citizen of Georgia has Become Even Easier
The Parliament of Georgia has adopted amendments to the "Law on Georgian Citizenship" in its third reading, making it easier to obtain citizenship. The bill was put to vote today, November 1, during a plenary session.
After being signed by the President of Georgia, individuals who have legally resided in Georgia for 5 years or more will be able to acquire citizenship under certain conditions. Previously, the law required at least 10 years of residence in the country.
However, for those wishing to obtain citizenship, it remains mandatory to have knowledge of the state language of Georgia, as well as a fundamental understanding of Georgian history and the basics of law.
84 deputies voted in favor of the adoption of the bill. The author of the document is the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, which presented it to the parliament on behalf of the government.
