Hamas Operates Underground Complexes and Tunnels Beneath Gaza's Largest Hospital
Hamas militants are reportedly utilizing humanitarian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, including Gaza's largest hospital, Al-Shifa, for military purposes, The Times of Israel reports, citing Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari.
Specifically, military officials have stated that several underground complexes exist beneath Al-Shifa, which Hamas uses to manage its operations, along with tunnels through which Hamas militants can access these complexes without coming into the hospital itself. At the same time, Hagari claims there is access to tunnels from within the hospital.
According to the Israeli army, there is a Hamas command center inside the hospital that is used to launch rockets towards Israel and store weapons. Hagari also mentioned that Hamas militants are exploiting the hospital's energy infrastructure for their own purposes.
“Hamas is using Al-Shifa hospital as a shield for its infrastructure. By operating from hospitals, Hamas is not only endangering the lives of Israeli citizens but also exploiting innocent civilians in Gaza,” said Hagari.
The Israeli Defense Forces asserted that the information regarding the hospital is based on “well-informed sources from the Israeli army and security.” These findings have been shared with Israeli intelligence partners in other countries.
In response, Hamas denied the accusations from Israel and labeled the statements made by Israeli military officials as “a prelude to a new massacre against our people.”
