We Hope to Sign a Peace Treaty with Azerbaijan in the Coming Months: Pashinyan

Armenia is currently working on a draft peace and normalization agreement with Azerbaijan, and I hope that this process will successfully conclude in the coming months. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during his speech on October 26 at the fourth international forum "Silk Road of Tbilisi," while discussing the prospects for establishing peace in the region.

He reminded that Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed on two key principles of peace: Baku and Yerevan mutually recognize each other's territorial integrity, understanding that Armenia's territory is 29,800 square kilometers and Azerbaijan's is 86,600 square kilometers.

The next principle is that Armenia and Azerbaijan agree to carry out demarcation and delimitation of the border based on the 1991 Almaty Declaration, according to which the administrative borders existing between countries during the Soviet era become state borders.

"We hope to sign a peace and normalization agreement with Azerbaijan in the coming months based on these principles. I also hope that there will soon be developments regarding the opening of the border between Armenia and Turkey for citizens of third countries and holders of diplomatic passports, which would also bring a positive signal to the entire region," Pashinyan said.
