A Hero's Parent and Educator Cannot Be An Order Taker or Coward: Mother of Fallen Gevorg Arshakyan Is a Judge Candidate
"I am guided by the formula of love for the homeland created by Gevorg Arshakyan: you love your homeland by recognizing it, you love your homeland by improving it. You wanted to imply that I am an order taker, that I am a coward. A hero's parent and educator cannot be either an order taker or a coward; this is undeniable proof." This was stated by Naida Hovhannesyan, candidate for judge of the Civil Chamber of the Court of Cassation, and member of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), in response to the statement of MP Gegham Manukyan during a session of the National Assembly.
As previously reported, the selection of a judge for the Civil Chamber of the Court of Cassation is currently being discussed in the National Assembly. Among the candidates for the vacant position of judge of the Civil Chamber of the Court of Cassation are Gurgen Malkhasyan, a judge of the first-instance general jurisdiction court of Shirak Province, and Naida Hovhannesyan, a member of the SJC and a judge of the civil court of Yerevan.
One of the candidates, as mentioned, is Naida Hovhannesyan, who is now seeking to move to the vacant position in the Civil Chamber of the Court of Cassation that arose only a few months ago after the SJC suspended the powers of judges. Notably, Naida Hovhannesyan voted in favor of that decision.
Hovhannesyan, whose son Gevorg Arshakyan was martyred in the third Artsakh war, the 44-day war, noted in the National Assembly that the greatest challenge facing Armenia today is peace, and for her, Armenia is a sacred entity. "Armenia is facing challenges, and the greatest issue is peace, the path to which is clear: a strong state, which implies a strong judiciary," emphasized Naida Hovhannesyan.
