Family of Security Guard Killed by Azerbaijani Soldier Files Appeal
The Azerbaijani soldier, Huseyn Akhundov, accused of killing security officer Hayrapet Meliksetyan of the ZPMK, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, Meliksetyan's relatives opposed this decision, as they were expecting a life sentence.
In an interview with MediaHub, Huseyn Akhundov's lawyer, Sarmik Harutyunyan, stated that the prison sentence has taken effect, but at the same time, Meliksetyan's family has filed an appeal to the Court of Appeals.
"The appeal has been heard, although I believe the decision will not change," he said.
It is recalled that on April 10, two Azerbaijani soldiers crossed the state border of Armenia. One of them, Agshin Gabil Babirov, was found in the community of Ashotavan in the Syunik region, claiming that he and his friend had escaped from their comrades. The second Azerbaijani, Huseyn Ahliman Akhundov, was found later, three days later in the village of Achanan in Syunik, after villagers noticed a strange individual and approached him, discovering he was Azerbaijani.
The prosecution filed charges against Huseyn Akhundov for the murder of the security guard on April 18.
