Another 14 Trucks Loaded with Humanitarian Aid Sent Through Rafah Crossing to Gaza

A convoy of 14 trucks carrying humanitarian aid has crossed through the Rafah crossing at the border with Egypt into the Gaza Strip. This was reported to Reuters by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

The Egyptian side had previously announced that 17 trucks with humanitarian aid crossed the border on Sunday, October 22; however, this information was later denied by the UN. It remains unclear how many vehicles in total were sent on Sunday. According to Reuters sources, nearly 19 trucks entered Gaza in just one day. On Saturday, the first 20 vehicles passed through the crossing.

On Sunday, while preparing the vehicle convoy at the crossing, an explosion occurred. An Israeli tank mistakenly fired and hit an Egyptian facility near the border. Several people were injured.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has worsened following the Hamas attack on October 7 and the subsequent military response from Israel. The parties are currently in a state of war. Israel has blockaded the enclave and demanded that 1.1 million civilians in the northern part evacuate to the south. The Israel Defense Forces are preparing for ground operations. Five UN agencies have described the situation in Gaza as catastrophic.
