Georg Altunyan Arrested: 'Hraparak'
‘Hraparak’ newspaper reports: The former head of the Ministry of Defense's press office, Georg Altunyan, has been arrested. His lawyer, Gor Sogoyan, stated: ‘The first-instance court applied house arrest and bail; the prosecutor's office appealed, and the appellate court overturned it. The investigation had initially requested his arrest, but the court had applied house arrest and bail instead.’
Will they appeal the appellate court's decision? ‘We need to discuss it; for now, no appeal has been filed,’ Sogoyan noted.
What investigative-juridical actions have been conducted involving Altunyan? ‘We initiated the request; he was interrogated and provided extensive testimony, and we have also requested further actions to be carried out, as what he has been charged with has no connection to reality,’ Sogoyan added.
It should be noted that Altunyan and four others, including Suren Aloyan, the founder of Dasaran.am, are accused of embezzling 106 million 300 thousand drams from the state by providing false information in documents during the Ministry of Defense's procurement process. They do not accept the charges brought against them.
