Aliyev: Solving the Issue of Missing Persons is Important for the Regulation of Armenian-Azerbaijani Relations

Clarifying the fate of missing persons is also crucial from the perspective of regulating and reconciling Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. Cooperation in this area could be one of the effective means of strengthening trust.

As reported by Trend, this was specifically stated in a message sent to participants of an international conference on "Increasing National and International Efforts to Clarify the Fate of Missing Persons" by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

“The issue of missing persons during armed conflicts is a global problem, and Azerbaijan has taken serious steps to increase international attention to this issue. Every two years, our country presents a resolution regarding missing persons at the UN General Assembly. We believe that there is a necessity to establish a special mechanism related to missing persons within the UN system,” the message reads.

It is noteworthy that there are also missing persons and prisoners from the Armenian side, regarding whom the country led by Aliyev is not taking measures, and is also grossly violating point 8 of the November 9, 2020 agreement, which involves the exchange of prisoners of war and other detainees as well as the bodies of the deceased.
