Photos: General Surivikin in Algeria - Reason Revealed

General Sergey Surivikin is currently in Algeria, according to the Telegram channel 'Grey Zone,' closely linked to the Wagner PMC, and a source from the military publication 'Kommersant.' The Telegram channel and the publication have also released photographs of the general.

According to 'Kommersant,' Surivikin arrived in Algeria alongside a delegation from the Russian Ministry of Defense. The publication's source connects the general's visit to the significant importance placed by the country's military-political leadership on the eastern direction in the implementation of foreign policy, while Russian authorities continue to trust Surivikin.

"It is evident that Surivikin is still trusted at the highest level, and it is possible that the general's visit is associated with his potential appointment to a position related to work in the eastern direction," a source told the newspaper.

RBC reports that the general's photographs have also surfaced on the account of the Abdal Hamid Ben Badis Mosque in Oran. The report pertains to the visit of the 'Russian high-level delegation.'

Sergey Surivikin previously held the position of Commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces. In October 2022, he became the head of the united group of Russian forces in Ukraine and led it until January 2023.

Following the rebellion of Yevgeny Prigozhin, reports emerged regarding Surivikin's possible arrest. According to American intelligence agencies, the general was reportedly aware in advance that the founder of Wagner was preparing a rebellion. Information on the arrest has not been officially confirmed.

On September 4, journalist Ksenia Sobchak published a photo of Surivikin, stating: "Alive, healthy, at home, with his family, in Moscow." Reports on Surivikin's release have also been confirmed by sources from The New York Times. A source close to the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that the general was released a few days after the crash of Yevgeny Prigozhin's plane.

On September 6, Anastasia Kashevarova, a former advisor to State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, noted that Surivikin's biography page had disappeared from the Russian Ministry of Defense's website. State Duma Defense Committee member Viktor Zavarzin stated that a 'good' position had been found for the general in the 'CIS.'
