Brazil May Withdraw from International Criminal Court Following Statement on Not Arresting Putin
Brazil's Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, stated that Brazil will consider withdrawing from the International Criminal Court (ICC). This comes after questions were raised about President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's comments that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not be arrested in Brazil.
“President Lula is right to warn that there is an imbalance when some countries are committed to the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court while others are not, for instance, the United States, China, and others,” Dino said.
He emphasized that this imbalance could lead to certain countries imposing their will on others. The minister also remarked that all countries that are UN members should review the Rome Statute, which established the court, to achieve equality.
