US State Department on Armenian-American Joint Exercises
The joint military exercises between the US and Armenian forces are routine and have no connection to the tensions between Yerevan and Baku. This was stated by Matthew Miller, the official spokesperson of the US State Department, according to RIA Novosti.
"These are routine exercises that have no relation to any other events," he said.
As previously reported, the opening of the Armenian-American exercise "Eagle Partner 2023" was announced on September 11 at the training center of the Ministry of Defense's peacekeeping brigade, "Zar."
"The aim of the exercise is to enhance the level of interoperability of units participating in international peacekeeping operations within the framework of peacekeeping actions, to exchange best practices in management and tactical communication, and to increase the readiness of the Armenian unit for the NATO/Partnership for Peace 'Operational Capabilities Concept' planning assessment," the Armenian Ministry of Defense's statement noted.
On September 10, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed regret over Yerevan's intention to conduct joint exercises with the US. "We see no good in NATO trying to penetrate the South Caucasus. I do not think this is good for anyone, including Armenia itself," he said at a press conference in New Delhi.
