Ukrainian Forces Fire 3 Cluster Munitions Towards Makeyevka and Donetsk
Ukrainian forces opened fire this morning towards Makeyevka and Donetsk, launching 3 cluster munitions of 155 mm caliber and 3 projectiles of NATO caliber. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing its sources.
It is noted that the Kuybyshev region is located to the west of Donetsk, while Kyivsky is in the northern part of the city. Since 2014, when the Donetsk People's Republic declared independence following a coup in Kyiv, the area has been subjected to regular shelling by Ukrainian forces.
The northern part of the region includes the airport, which was completely destroyed during months of fighting between Ukrainian troops encircled there and the Donetsk militias attacking their positions.
Makeyevka is a satellite city of Donetsk, located to its northeast. In 2014, about 350,000 people lived in Makeyevka. The Chervonohvardiysky region is situated in the western part of the city.
The United States has supplied Ukraine with long-range M777 howitzers of 155 mm caliber, which the Ukrainian military is actively using to shell cities in the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. Additionally, Ukrainian forces have been supplied with German PzH 2000, Polish self-propelled guns CAESAR, and French CAESAR artillery systems that utilize similar caliber munitions.
