US Condemns Upcoming Russian Elections in Donbas, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia
Russia has declared September 10 as a unified voting day across various regions. During these elections, Russian citizens will vote for governors, legislative assembly representatives, local representative bodies, and four representatives for the State Duma of the Russian Federation. This information was reported by TASS.
For the first time, residents of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, which have come under Russian control during military operations in Ukraine, as well as those in the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, will participate in these elections.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has criticized the holding of elections in territories claimed by Russia, labeling them as 'illegal.' He stated, 'The fake elections in the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia are illegal and contravene the UN Charter. The United States will never recognize Russia's claims to any sovereign territory of Ukraine. We will support Ukraine for as long as necessary,' Blinken wrote on his page on the social media platform X.
