Armenia Has No Territorial Demands and Expects the Same from Azerbaijan: Armenian Foreign Ministry

The Armenian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement addressing recent comments made by Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry following Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's speech at the government meeting on September 7, 2023. The statement highlights several key points.

It notes that Azerbaijani social media users and media outlets have themselves published information indicating that Azerbaijani forces are amassing near the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and along the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh, corroborated by other sources. In the aforementioned speech, Prime Minister Pashinyan reiterated Armenia's commitment to the agreements reached in Prague on October 6, 2022, in Sochi on October 31, 2022, and in Brussels on May 14, 2023, which reaffirmed mutual recognition of each other’s territorial integrity by Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Armenia does not have any territorial demands from Azerbaijan and expects the same in return, which has not yet been publicly confirmed by Azerbaijan.

Armenia is not interested in military escalation and has previously proposed and continues to offer mechanisms to mitigate such risks, which have remained unanswered to date. Furthermore, it is prepared to discuss the introduction of other effective mechanisms as well.

Armenia is ready to continue active efforts to finalize the draft peace agreement with Azerbaijan as soon as possible and to sign it.

Armenia remains committed to the agenda of peace and stability in the South Caucasus, while emphasizing the need for similar rhetoric and practical signals from official Baku. It is evident that the blockade of the Lachin corridor, the humanitarian crisis established in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the lack of dialogue between Baku and Stepanakert within an international framework do not contribute to improving the atmosphere in the region.
