The United Homeland Party Will Not Participate in the Voting for the President of Artsakh

The United Homeland Party has issued a statement regarding the presidential elections in the National Assembly of Artsakh.

In recent months, alongside legislative changes ensuring legal grounds, the political background in Artsakh reached a peak with the resignation of the fourth president of the Republic of Artsakh, which, as stipulated, is expected to be resolved on September 9 with the appointment of a candidate proposed through an agreement.

The four factions represented in the parliament are continually creating legal and political conditions that not only restrict but also violate human dignity, basic rights, and freedoms. In the Republic of Artsakh, power belongs to the people; therefore, conducting the presidential election without considering the opinions of the broad masses of the population is an infringement on constitutional order.

Taking the aforementioned into account, the United Homeland Party remains committed to the vote of confidence received from the elections of 2020, condemning the unequal competitive conditions and predetermined electoral results. By staying out of the collective recklessness of the political forces of Artsakh, as well as considering the atmosphere of public intolerance created in the context of the election of the President of the Republic by the National Assembly, it announces that the United Homeland faction will not participate in the voting for the presidential candidate of the Republic.

The United Homeland Party reciprocates calls for sobriety, balance, and an avoidance of recklessness, demanding that current actors refrain from exceeding their authority, ensure the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals and citizens, and urges citizens to demonstrate a high level of civic awareness and exercise their rights enshrined in the Constitution.

At the same time, the United Homeland Party believes that the current political tension and intolerance are consequences of a three-member group of foreign influence agents attempting to monopolize the fate of Artsakh on one hand, and on the other, the persistent attempts to reject Samvel Babayan's candidacy for president by all possible means.

Thus, the entire responsibility for the situation lies with the current authorities, led by the acting president.
