Allegations of Espionage: 20-Year-Old Girl in Azerbaijan Accused of Spying for Armenia
A 20-year-old student in Azerbaijan is set to face court for allegedly spying for Armenia. Fidan Aliyeva has been accused of passing information about Azerbaijan through an employee of Armenia's special services. This information has been reported by Azerbaijani media.
According to available information, Aliyeva was one of the “eco-activists” who blocked the Lachin corridor on December 12, 2022. It is noted that the girl reportedly transferred information, videos, and photos to an employee of Armenia's special services, whom she got to know through Telegram.
Aliyeva faces charges of treason, which could result in a sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
She has denied the accusations. Azerbaijani Telegram channels report that she was unaware that the person she met on social media was Armenian, believing instead that he was a citizen of Russia.
Azerbaijani channels have also circulated recordings allegedly belonging to the student.
