Gabon Announces Reopening of Land and Air Borders
Mariam Z.
The military that seized power in Gabon, following the ouster of President Ali Bongo Ondimba, has announced the reopening of land, sea, and air borders.
This was stated by Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi, a representative of the Transitional and Recovery Committee, during a broadcast on state television.
Following the coup on August 30, borders were closed. A group of high-ranking military officials took control after it became known that Ali Bongo Ondimba had won presidential elections for a third time.
The rebels declared that they do not recognize the election results and have placed the head of state under house arrest. General Brice Oligui Nguema has been appointed as Gabon's interim president.
