Impeachment Offered to Georgian President in Exchange for Saakashvili's Freedom
Alexander Rakviashvili, a member of the 'Girchi' political group, has proposed to President Salome Zourabichvili to avoid impeachment and instead grant a pardon to the country's former leader, Mikheil Saakashvili.
He promised that Saakashvili's founded 'United National Movement' party would vote against the impeachment in parliament. Consequently, the 'Georgian Dream' party would likely struggle to gather the necessary 100 votes.
It should be noted that the idea of impeaching the country's president belongs to the ruling 'Georgian Dream' party. The reason is that Zourabichvili previously violated the constitution by traveling to Europe to meet with EU leaders without government permission.
Earlier, we reported that Georgia's ruling party had initiated the impeachment process for the president.
