Georgian Ruling Party Initiates Impeachment Process Against President

The ruling party of Georgia, the "Georgian Dream," has begun the process of removing President Salome Zourabichvili from office, announced the party leader Irakli Kobakhidze.

"In the party's political council, we decided to start the impeachment procedure for the president," Kobakhidze stated.

Recently, Kobakhidze mentioned that Zourabichvili is making foreign visits that have not been approved by the government, which violations the constitution. According to the country’s fundamental law, the head of state must coordinate international travel with the cabinet of ministers.

As clarified on Wednesday by Mamuka Mdinaradze, the executive secretary of "Georgian Dream," the government has reasons to refuse Zourabichvili's visits. Specifically, the president's recent speech in parliament has been deemed as directed against Georgia's European integration.

The cabinet of ministers has not coordinated the president's visits to ten countries, including Germany, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Ukraine.
