ECHR Gives Azerbaijan Deadline to Provide Information on Abducted Three Young Men
Azerbaijan must provide information by September 7 regarding three civilians abducted on August 28 from the Lachin corridor. This was announced by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), according to Yegishe Kirakosyan, Armenia's representative on international legal matters.
It has been reported that Armenia has submitted a request to the ECHR for interim measures against Azerbaijan regarding the protection of the rights of the three civilians abducted from the Lachin corridor.
The ECHR's decision states that Azerbaijan is obliged to inform the court about the location of these individuals, the conditions of their detention, their health status, the medical assistance received, and the measures taken for their return.
Recall that on August 28, during their transportation from Artsakh with the escort of Armenian peacekeeping troops, the Azerbaijani side abducted 22-year-old Alen Sargsyan. It later became known that two more young men, Vahe Hovhannisyan and Levo Grigoryan, had not crossed the checkpoint, and efforts to establish contact with them have been unsuccessful. All three young men were on their way to study in Armenia.
The Azerbaijani side also announced that the three young men were "arrested for previously insulting the Azerbaijani flag." They were charged under two articles. Later, it was reported that criminal proceedings against the three abducted young Artsakh residents had been halted. However, there has been no news regarding the young men.
