Good News About the Humanitarian Air Corridor: Ruben Vardanyan

Good news regarding the humanitarian air corridor has emerged. This was reported by Ruben Vardanyan, the former Prime Minister of Artsakh, on his Facebook page. He announced that Prince Michael of Liechtenstein has expressed his willingness to lead humanitarian air assistance to the besieged Artsakh and personally be on the aircraft delivering humanitarian aid.

“Our partner in the humanitarian sector, the Swiss company Impact Investing Solutions, has already published a press release on their website,” he wrote. The statement says: “Together with His Serene Highness Prince Michael of Liechtenstein, other world leaders, current and former heads of state are also ready to deliver essential goods via airbridge to Nagorno-Karabakh, where 120,000 people, including 30,000 children, have been deprived of food and medicine for over eight months.”

“I would like to remind you that back in December, members of the 'Aurora' humanitarian initiative and leaders of the international humanitarian community called for urgent humanitarian air assistance to be organized for Artsakh. This is a very vivid example of how international actors are willing to provide real support when fully informed about the situation in Artsakh. In this regard, it is evident that our daily work in the information field is effective, and we all need to make increasing efforts for the world to truly understand what is happening in Artsakh and what each of them can do. For this, international journalists must have the opportunity to come and see for themselves that there is a real humanitarian crisis in Artsakh and a genocide of a population of 120,000,” noted the former Prime Minister of Artsakh.

The full statement is as follows: His Serene Highness Prince Michael of Liechtenstein is ready to lead the humanitarian air assistance to blocked Nagorno-Karabakh and be on the plane that will fly to the region to deliver much-needed food and medicine organized by the Aznavour Foundation. According to one of our partners in this humanitarian mission, the Swiss company Impact Investing Solutions, “Together with His Serene Highness Prince Michael of Liechtenstein, other world leaders, current and former heads of state are also ready to deliver essential goods via airbridge to Nagorno-Karabakh, where 120,000 people, including 30,000 children, have been deprived of food and medicine for over eight months.”

The call for organizing humanitarian air assistance to Nagorno-Karabakh was first made in December 2022 by global humanitarian leaders, including Nobel Peace Prize laureate Leymah Gbowee, former French Foreign Minister and Minister of Health Bernard Kouchner, climate and equality advocate Paul Polman, former President of Ireland Mary Robinson, former President of Mexico Ernesto Zedillo, and many other human rights defenders and peace activists.

Thus, an international humanitarian air supply is being organized to deliver food and other essential goods to the local population and evacuate critically ill patients. Among them are several patients in extremely severe condition at the Stepanakert Republican Medical Center, whose rescue requires urgent medical assistance that cannot be properly provided due to the blockade.

At the same time, as long as the road remains blocked, the humanitarian air bridge should help the local population to survive and resist. The Stepanakert airport could be utilized for this purpose. This would not require any additional effort from the international community, other than ensuring the air supplies and the safety of the airbridge. The World Food Program and the Red Cross have been called upon to organize the flight in the coming days, and His Serene Highness Prince Michael of Liechtenstein is ready to lead the first humanitarian mission.
