Replacing the Lachin Corridor with the Aghdam Road Will Be a Catastrophe and the End of Artsakh: David Babayan

The road from Aghdam to Stepanakert is merely a logistical route, and we do not know if it will be operational and when; however, if the opening of this road is linked to the opening of the Lachin corridor, and even more so, if the Lachin corridor is replaced by this road, then this will be a catastrophe and the end of Artsakh. This was stated by David Babayan, an adviser to the President of Artsakh, in an interview with NEWS.am.

“After that, the concept of corridor will disappear, and people, if necessary, will not even be able to flee or leave. The issue of opening (the road from Aghdam to Stepanakert - ed.) should not become political,” he said.

According to him, the question of replacing one road with another is also a geopolitical issue, and the attempt to implement that plan will be related to the desire to suffocate Artsakh as soon as possible.

Babayan explained that today those who should leave Artsakh are leaving, including students and patients in extremely serious condition. “Citizens of other countries are also leaving. But this is a very small percentage of the people in Artsakh. Peacekeepers have been asked to at least transport students and patients. The Red Cross is also working,” emphasized the President's adviser.

He did not rule out that tomorrow Azerbaijan could also stop this category of people and declare that no one is allowed to leave, or could again abduct people. “Anything is possible,” Babayan added.
