Soldier Inflicts Fatal Gunshot Wound on Outpost Commander, Then Shoots Himself: Investigative Committee

The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an investigation within the military investigative department to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two soldiers from the N military unit of the Ministry of Defense of RA.

On August 27, 2023, a report was received indicating that on the same day, around 4:00 PM, an observer soldier A.H. from the combat position of the N military unit inflicted a fatal gunshot wound to the outpost commander, soldier A.K., using the assigned AK-74 rifle. Following this, he inflicted a fatal gunshot wound to himself in the neck area using the same weapon.

In connection with the incident, criminal proceedings have been initiated under part 1 of article 155 and point 3 of part 2 of article 522 of the RA Criminal Code. The investigation is ongoing.

Preliminary data suggests that the incident is related to interpersonal, non-regulatory relationships. Urgent measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the case.
