Biden Ready to Meet Kim Jong Un 'Without Preconditions'
U.S. President Joe Biden is prepared to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. This statement was made by John Kirby, the National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications.
"We are ready to sit down at the negotiating table without preconditions," Kirby said in an interview with Kyodo News. He added that North Korean authorities have not yet responded to the proposal.
The North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accused the U.S. and South Korea of escalating tensions to the brink of nuclear war. In August, the North Korean leader announced that the readiness of the Korean People's Army would be increased "offensively." Kim Jong Un also ordered an increase in missile production to ensure a "overwhelming military capability" and readiness for war.
