The U.S. Calls on Azerbaijani Authorities to Restore Movement Through the Lachin Corridor
The U.S. is calling on Azerbaijani authorities to restore movement through the Lachin Corridor. This statement was made by Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Ambassador to the UN, during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council convened at the request of Armenia.
According to her, the U.S. is concerned about the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and is deeply troubled by the closure of the Lachin Corridor, which cuts off access to vital goods and exacerbates the humanitarian situation in the region.
“We urge the Azerbaijani government to restore traffic through the Lachin Corridor. We also note the possibility of compromise regarding other routes. Humanitarian transport should not be restricted,” she stated.
According to the U.S. representative, the parties should continue negotiations regarding the resolution of their relations, which requires flexibility and compromises. The U.S. calls upon both parties to exercise restraint and adhere to their commitments under humanitarian law.
“We will continue to engage with all partners,” concluded the diplomat.
