Former FBI Agent Worked for Russian Businessman: Bloomberg
Charles McGonigal, a former agent of the FBI, has admitted in court to working for Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska. This was reported by Bloomberg.
McGonigal was the head of counterintelligence at the FBI's New York office until his retirement in 2018. In court, he confessed to providing services to Deripaska from spring to fall of 2021 by conducting private investigations against a rival Russian businessman.
According to Reuters, the rival in question is Vladimir Potanin. The investigation was reportedly aimed at including Potanin on the U.S. sanctions list. For his services, McGonigal allegedly received $17,500, as stated by the prosecution.
