VIDEO: Soviet MiG-23 Fighter Crashes During Airshow in the US

A Soviet-made MiG-23 fighter aircraft has crashed during an airshow in Michigan, USA. The pilot and another crew member ejected safely.

The accident occurred around 4:00 PM local time (midnight Yerevan time). The fighter jet collided with a parking lot of a residential complex near Belleville, close to Detroit. According to a statement on the site of Detroit Metropolitan Airport, several vehicles were damaged in the incident.

The MiG-23 is a multi-role fighter featuring variable geometry wings. It was introduced into service in 1969 and mass production ceased in 1985. The aircraft was exported to Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Bulgaria, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Egypt, Libya, Hungary, Iraq, India, North Korea, Ethiopia, South Yemen, Poland, Syria, and Vietnam.

The pilot and the second crew member have been hospitalized as a precaution, but they did not sustain serious injuries. No one else was harmed in the incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting an investigation. There has been no report yet on the possible causes of the crash.
