18+ PHOTOS: 'ZIL' Found in Opposite Traffic Lane, New Information Released by Investigative Committee

The Shirak Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation to clarify the circumstances of a traffic accident on the Yerevan-Gyumri highway that resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals.

According to preliminary data from the RA Investigative Committee, on August 14, 2023, at approximately 00:20, vehicles of the brands 'ZIL' and 'Volkswagen' collided on the 90th kilometer of the Yerevan-Gyumri highway. As a result, the driver of the 'Volkswagen' and 10 passengers died, while the driver of the 'ZIL' and 5 passengers of the 'Volkswagen' with bodily injuries were taken to a medical center.

In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 342, Part 3 of the RA Criminal Code.

During the preliminary investigation, it was established during the examination of the traffic accident site that on the 90th kilometer of the Yerevan-Gyumri highway, both vehicles collided head-on, with the 'Volkswagen' vehicle located in its designated traffic lane towards the city of Yerevan, while the 'ZIL' vehicle was found in the opposite traffic lane towards the city of Gyumri.

According to information received from the medical center, the condition of the 'ZIL' driver is assessed as critical, and it is currently impossible for him to give a statement.

Within the framework of the criminal proceedings, 16 individuals have been recognized as victims, and forensic medical examinations have been appointed. Necessary investigative and procedural actions are ongoing to clarify all circumstances of the case.
