Visitors to Kornidzor Confirm That Azerbaijan Has Blocked the Lachin Corridor: Vardan Sargsyan

Vardan Sargsyan, a representative of the working group established by the Armenian government for managing the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, considers the responses from Azerbaijan regarding the Armenian government's initiative to send humanitarian aid to Artsakh to be unconstructive. This was reported by Armenpress.

In an interview with the media outlet, Sargsyan noted that there are frequent attempts to politicize this initiative, while representatives of international organizations visiting Kornidzor confirm that Azerbaijan has indeed blocked the Lachin Corridor.

"A convoy full of humanitarian supplies continues to remain in the same place where it was parked eleven days ago. As stated from the beginning, our goal is solely the implementation of this humanitarian initiative, towards which we continue to take steps. The main observation over the past 11 days is that there is increasing attention and resonance regarding this initiative from both the international community and our public. Evidence of this are the visits by representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations to the Kornidzor area, as well as statements from various state institutions and parliamentarians from different countries, clearly calling on Azerbaijan to open the blocked Lachin corridor," Sargsyan said.

According to him, those visiting the Kornidzor area are witnessing firsthand the situation and receiving verified information about the deepening humanitarian crisis in Artsakh hour by hour. "There is also significant interest from international media. Numerous journalists from different countries have visited this area in recent days and have seen with their own eyes that access to humanitarian supplies to Artsakh is currently obstructed by Azerbaijan," Sargsyan emphasized.

Addressing the Azerbaijan's unconstructive actions, particularly the abduction of two residents from Artsakh, the Armenian government representative stressed that such actions cannot contribute to the resolution of the situation or the implementation of humanitarian initiatives.

"Especially the case of the citizen being transported to Armenia by the International Committee of the Red Cross highlights Azerbaijan's attitude towards the resolution of humanitarian issues, as depriving a citizen of the right to receive medical assistance is a gross violation. We expect that the growing international attention to the humanitarian initiative of the Armenian government and the awareness of the existing situation—whether in the form of calls or specific actions—will indeed contribute to the lifting of the blockage of the Lachin corridor and the transportation of humanitarian supplies to Artsakh," Sargsyan concluded.
