This Year 85 More Fires Registered Compared to Last Year

In the Republic of Armenia, from January to July, there has been an increase of 85 fires compared to the same period last year. This was announced during a press conference by Arsen Mkrtchyan, the head of the National Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

"This year, there has been a slight increase compared to last year. In 2022, there were 2,879 recorded cases of fires, while this year there are 2,964 cases. A significant increase was observed in January and March, while there was a considerable decrease in June and April, by 168 and 220 cases respectively. During the months of January to July in both 2022 and 2023, there has been an increase in the number of fires in vegetated areas and stored animal feed, with 15 cases each. The cases of garbage fires have increased by 61, and fires in vehicles have increased by 31,” said Mkrtchyan.

He noted that despite the aforementioned data, there has been a decrease of 51 fires in residential buildings and houses, and a decrease of 11 in garages.

He emphasized that considering the existing fire hazard situation in the country, due to high temperatures and strong winds, the emergency service units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are on duty in forested areas of Armenia.
