Intense Discussions Erupt on Twitter After Disney Plus Cancels ‘Atatürk’ Series
The Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party, Ömer Çelik, has labeled it ‘shameful’ that Disney Plus has succumbed to pressure from the Armenian lobby, resulting in the cancellation of the ‘Atatürk’ series. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.
The President of Turkey’s Radio and Television Supreme Council, Ebubekir Şahin, has announced the initiation of an investigation. ‘Founding Father of the Republic of Turkey, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, is our most important public value. The claims regarding the intervention of the Armenian lobby being spread in the media are being thoroughly examined,’ he stated.
The Turkish platform Kürsü, active on Twitter, has also released a statement regarding the cancellation of the series, alongside several unions.
Moreover, Muharrem İnce, leader of the Motherland Party, addressed the matter on Twitter, stating, ‘It is absolutely unacceptable for a series related to our founding father, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, to be hindered by the activities of the diaspora and lobby.’
Earlier, it had been reported that the series telling the story of the founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey, ‘Atatürk,’ will not be aired on Disney Plus platforms. The series, which cost $8 million, will only be shown in Turkish cinemas as a film in October.
