ARMENIAN ATHLETES WIN FIRST MEDALS AT THE 9TH FRANCOPHONIE INTERNATIONAL GAMES
Armenian freestyle wrestlers have won their first medals at the 9th Francophonie International Games. This information was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia.
In the ongoing games in Congo, Vrej Gevorgyan in the 61 kg weight category won a gold medal and was declared the champion, while Hrachya Margaryan in the 65 kg weight category secured a silver medal, and Arakel Movsesyan in the 57 kg weight category claimed a bronze medal.
The wrestlers were awarded by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloian.
It should be noted that the 9th Francophonie International Games are taking place in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, from July 26 to August 6, with Armenia participating with a sizable delegation. Armenia is represented by 19 athletes in five sports, who will compete in athletics, freestyle wrestling, judo, table tennis, and cycling.
Additionally, only 18-35-year-old French-speaking youth from the 88 full member and observer states of the International Organization of La Francophonie are eligible to participate in the games, which are held every four years. This year, 38 countries, including Armenia for the fourth time, have submitted applications for participation. Armenia has been participating in the Francophonie Games since 2009.
