ECHR Makes Notable Ruling on Seven Judges in Armenia
The daily "Zhoghovurd" reports that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has made a notable ruling concerning seven judges in Armenia whose powers have been revoked. The cases of these judges will be combined and examined in a single procedure.
Specifically, the seven judges whose powers have been revoked include Ruben Vardazaryan, Alexey Sokoyan, Zarouhi Nakhsherian, Anna Pilosyan, Suren Antonian, Sima Voskanyan, and Rafael Melkonyan. They have appealed to the ECHR, claiming that their powers were revoked due to severe violations of their rights.
The European court accepted the judges' complaints for consideration, and all their cases will be examined together in one proceedings. This decision by the ECHR is unprecedented, as it indicates that the court has recognized a violation and will prioritize the cases of the judges whose powers have been revoked.
This suggests that a new "setback" may be in store for the Supreme Judicial Council. According to reports we have received, the ECHR has also informed the Council about accepting the judges' application for consideration and prioritizing the examination of the seven judges' cases in a single proceeding.
"Zhoghovurd" approached the Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia for clarification on the matter, but in response, the Council stated, "We have not received any correspondence from the ECHR and do not have any function to discuss such matters with them."
Surprisingly, the Supreme Judicial Council appears to be misleading, as the daily "Zhoghovurd" possesses a document showing how Yegishe Kirakosyan, representative of the Republic of Armenia at the European Court of Human Rights, sent a letter regarding the ECHR's decision to both the President of the Council, Andreasian, and the Minister of Justice, Grigor Minasyan, effectively requesting explanations.
Below is the exclusive document from the ECHR. For further details, please refer to today’s issue of the daily.
