Water Cannons Used Against Protesters Attacking Sweden's Embassy in Iraq

The Iraqi police have employed water cannons to disperse protesters who attacked the Swedish embassy in Baghdad, according to reports by AFP. In addition to water cannons, the police used riot control weapons to manage the crowd.

Earlier, it was reported that on the night of July 20, Iraqi citizens, upset over the burning of the Quran, stormed the Swedish embassy building in Baghdad and set it ablaze. No embassy staff were reported injured in the incident.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry condemned the takeover of the embassy and underscored the necessity for Iraqi authorities to protect diplomatic missions.
