20,000 - 50,000 Ukrainians Have Lost One or More Limbs, The Wall Street Journal
The Wall Street Journal reports that the number of Ukrainians who have lost a hand or a leg since the beginning of the war in Ukraine ranges from 20,000 to 50,000 people. According to the publication, this estimate is based on data from charitable and medical organizations, as well as reports from prosthetics manufacturers, and it may be lower than the actual number, as amputations are sometimes not performed immediately after the injury.
Additionally, the publication notes that the number of amputations may rise as the Ukrainian Armed Forces transition to a more active phase of counteroffensive operations.
It is also reported that during the five years of the First World War, 67,000 Germans and 41,000 Britons underwent limb amputations.
