VIDEO: "Taxi Payments Should Become Cashless" - Pashinyan
The circulation of cash in taxis should be reduced and eliminated in the medium term. It is now common worldwide for taxis to also be equipped with POS terminals. Of course, there is already the possibility to pay with cashless smartphone applications, but this should also be part of our vision,
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a government session. He added, "If passengers are using cards or do not have cash, and if taxis do not offer a cashless payment option, we need to provide them with certain opportunities, because it should not be the passenger's obligation to have cash or electronic money, but rather the service provider's responsibility."
The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, mentioned that the points raised by the Prime Minister have been included in the draft law. He explained, "For both individual users and taxis operating on electronic platforms, a mandatory requirement has been established to have electronic cash register machines and electronic receipts. This law will come into effect in September 2024."
