Video: Tensions Continue, New Footage from Azerbaijan's Goychay Region
New footage has emerged from Azerbaijan's Goychay region, where local residents have taken to the streets for an environmental protest. Local media report that employees from the municipal administration have arrived in the Goychay region, where the situation remains tense as locals participate in a protest.
A dialogue is currently taking place between the protesters and representatives of the authorities. In relation to an incident that occurred yesterday in the Soyudlu village, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Internal Affairs has also issued a statement.
“The police officer lost control and committed a serious violation against a woman, and we acknowledge this; an investigation is underway regarding the fact, and a legal assessment of his actions will be provided,” assured the department.
Earlier, reports indicated that police had beaten elderly residents of Soyudlu village in Azerbaijan's Goychay region who were protesting against the construction of an artificial lake in the village. During the dispersal of the protesters, police used batons against the elderly, who were compelled to defend themselves with stones.
