Armenia and Azerbaijan to Participate in ECHR Public Hearings
Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to participate in public hearings at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The open discussion will take place within the framework of the first interstate complaint titled "Armenia v. Azerbaijan," submitted on February 1, 2021.
Yegishe Kirakosyan, Armenia’s representative on international legal issues, told 'News' that the written procedures have concluded, and they are awaiting the court's announcement regarding the public hearings.
The first interstate complaint presented to the ECHR concerns the violations of the Convention committed by Azerbaijan during the 44-day war and the subsequent period. Armenia asserts that Azerbaijan violated the rights to life, protection from torture and inhumane treatment, personal integrity, property, personal and family life, education, and several other rights.
The complaint also raises issues regarding the protection of the rights of prisoners of war, the displaced population of Artsakh, victims and the wounded, as well as representatives of local and international media.
