Human Rights Defender on Violence Against Lawyer

According to information released today, violence was committed against lawyer Karen Alaverdyan at the Central Division of the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The Office of the Human Rights Defender reports that, in connection with the incident, discussions have been initiated on the Defender's own initiative. Corresponding letters will be addressed to the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, demanding a thorough and multifaceted investigation into the circumstances of the mentioned incident.

It should be emphasized that the protected professional activities of lawyers are one of the essential preconditions for an adequate system of human rights protection in the country and play a crucial role in ensuring the justice system and the rule of law.
