Former Dutch Parliament Members Call for International Peacekeeping Mission to Nagorno-Karabakh

A group of former members of the Dutch Parliament has issued a joint statement on the website ‘Nederlands Dagblad,’ urging the Dutch government and international organizations to send an international peacekeeping mission to Nagorno-Karabakh and to pressure Baku to accept this mission.

The former Dutch parliamentarians referenced Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement made last week, wherein he indicated that Armenia is ready to recognize the region as part of Azerbaijan, provided that secure assurances for safety are ensured.

“Practically, this means there must be international involvement to maintain peace and prevent ethnic cleansing. The role of the Dutch government is crucial here. To allow for peace, in addition to guaranteed security for the residents of Artsakh, Azerbaijan's faithful cooperation is also necessary regarding the establishment of final borders, the return of prisoners of war, the safe return of refugees, and issues of administrative and cultural autonomy. It is equally important to reopen regional communication routes, such as the currently closed Lachin Corridor, which is the only access road from Armenia to Artsakh,” the statement reads.
