Father of Murdered Criminal Authority 'Gnunetsi Varazik' Attempts Suicide, Reports Say
Yesterday, following the murder of Varazdat Gasparyan in central Yerevan, his father, Kh. Gasparyan, reportedly inflicted self-harm and attempted suicide after learning of his son's death. He has been transferred to a hospital, where he remains in a complicated psychological state, according to Armlur.am.
Armlur.am reported that Varazdat Gasparyan, who was shot dead on Baghramyan Avenue in Yerevan, had been involved in a criminal case related to the brother of Civil Contract faction MP Khachatur Sukiasyan, Robert Sukiasyan.
Shamshyan.com reported that the murder occurred with the use of firearms near the 8th polyclinic, along the stretch of Baghramyan Avenue leading to James Bryce Street. The victim, 35-year-old Varazdat Gasparyan, was a resident of Vardanants Street in Yerevan and was well-known by the name 'Gnunetsi Varazik.'
It has come to light that prior to his murder, Varazdat Gasparyan was also involved in another criminal case. Specifically, on July 18, 2021, shots were fired on Amiryan Street, towards Saryan, in front of the NSS Yerevan office, from a black Mazda 6.
Police and investigators discovered that on the same day, around 7:00 PM, an argument had broken out there involving 51-year-old Robert Sukiasyan, 47-year-old Arman Apiyan, 33-year-old Varazdat Gasparyan, and 29-year-old Sargis Abgaryan on one side, and 35-year-old Narek Karapetyan and 42-year-old Harut Habagyan, a U.S. citizen, on the other side.
According to gathered information, Robert Sukiasyan, the brother of the businessman and MP Khachatur Sukiasyan, had fired shots from his firearm, injuring Harut Habagyan in the leg.
Robert Sukiasyan faced charges for showing blatant disrespect towards society with the use of a firearm, and for committing public hooliganism with intent in a public place, displaying an obvious contempt for social and moral norms.
Varazdat Gasparyan was also arraigned in this case, and yesterday he was shot dead in central Yerevan; he had also faced charges for public hooliganism on July 18, 2021. This case is still under trial, and two years later, one of the defendants has been killed, shot in the eye.
