Parties Seem Unopposed to Using 1975 Maps for Demarcation Between Armenia and Azerbaijan: Pashinyan

During a meeting with the Armenian community in Moldova at the Manuk Bey Palace, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that an important step has been confirmed during the meeting with European Council President Charles Michel, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Scholz, and Azerbaijani President Aliyev.

“There is a very preliminary, but important detail from today’s meeting. It seems that the parties emphasized that they are not opposed to using the 1975 maps as a basis for further demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This means another step in reaffirming the 29,800 square kilometers of territorial integrity,” Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan also mentioned that the rights and security issues of Artsakh citizens were discussed in detail, with EU mediator partners also expressing their positions. He stated that the general understanding is that the rights and security of the Armenian population of Artsakh should be discussed in the format of Baku-Stepanakert dialogue, which should take place with international involvement.

He also informed that meetings at the level of foreign ministers will take place in Washington starting June 12, and a trilateral meeting concerning the opening of regional communications is scheduled for June 2 in Moscow. Additionally, Charles Michel has expressed a desire to organize a five-party meeting in Spain this autumn.

During the five-party meeting, the Armenian side reaffirmed that it is in favor of opening regional communications under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia regarding the routes passing through our territory.
