Executive Committee of Kilicdaroglu's Party Resigns After Election Defeat
The executive committee of Turkey's Republican People's Party, led by Kemal Kilicdaroglu, has resigned today following the opposition leader's defeat in the second round of the presidential elections. The meeting of the governing body lasted 4.5 hours and was held behind closed doors, according to CNN Turk.
According to the television report, 17 representatives of Turkey's oldest party have resigned from leadership. There are calls within the party led by Kilicdaroglu for a complete change in leadership, as he has not won any national elections since 2010. However, he had previously stated that he did not intend to step down from his position.
