A Major Explosion is Brewing in Central Europe: Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov believes that a major explosion is brewing in central Europe regarding the situation surrounding the unrecognized Republic of Kosovo. This was reported by gazeta.ru.
“A major explosion is brewing in central Europe. Right there, where NATO conducted aggression against Yugoslavia in 1999, violating every possible principle of the Helsinki Final Act and the OSCE documents,” Lavrov told journalists.
He described the situation around Serbia and Kosovo as alarming. According to the diplomat, Western countries have set a political course aimed at “totally subjugating everyone.” However, in the case of Kosovo, a geopolitical solution is necessary to ensure “equal, indivisible security for all states,” Lavrov noted.
According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, this solution should mean that no military bloc, including the North Atlantic Alliance, has the right to claim supremacy in the European region.
On the morning of May 26, Kosovo’s security forces arrived at the municipal administration buildings in four municipalities and attempted to take them over. At this moment, local residents opposed them. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has put the Serbian army on maximum alert due to the escalation of the situation in Kosovo.
On May 28, Serbian Defense Minister Miloš Vučević stated that tensions in Kosovo have reached a peak and could turn into armed conflict.
On May 29, it was reported that NATO forces have blocked access to the town halls in the northern region of Kosovo and Metohija. Several hundred people have gathered near the local government buildings in the northern province, demanding the removal of the Kosovo police and the withdrawal of newly elected Albanian mayors.
