No Signing of Armenian-Azerbaijani Peace Agreement Anticipated in Chisinau, says Armenian Foreign Ministry
The Armenian Foreign Ministry has stated that the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not included in the agenda for the upcoming negotiations in Chisinau, according to a response to Auroranews' inquiry.
The discussions regarding the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, particularly surrounding the agreement on “Establishing Peace and Inter-State Relations,” are ongoing.
“As we have repeatedly stated, the Armenian side will be ready to sign the agreement when key issues are addressed. We believe that discussions on these matters will continue during the meeting scheduled for June 1st in Chisinau under the framework of the European Political Community and afterwards,” the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
Earlier, Reuters reported, citing Leila Abdullayeva, the Azerbaijani ambassador to France, that it is possible that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will sign a peace agreement regarding Nagorno-Karabakh during the summit of the European Political Community in Moldova on June 1.
It is noteworthy that on May 25, a session of the Eurasian Economic High Council took place in Moscow, attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev (Azerbaijan is not a member of the EAEU). Following this, Russian President Vladimir Putin held separate meetings with Prime Minister Pashinyan and Aliyev, after which trilateral discussions commenced. Subsequently, President Putin announced that the deputy prime ministers of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan would meet in a week to resolve unregulated issues.
