Results of Discussions in Moscow on Artsakh Are Unsatisfactory: Pashinyan
The geopolitical situation in the region remains tense, not only due to our complex relationships but also because of global processes. This was stated today by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a discussion in parliament on the previous year's state budget performance.
“I want to also address our regional situation. You know that the year 2022 was marked by the September aggression towards Armenia. I must say that the geopolitical situation in our region continues to be quite tense. Moreover, this is connected not only to our complicated relationships but also to global processes,” Pashinyan emphasized, referring to both the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the events occurring along the Iran-Afghanistan border.
Regarding the trilateral negotiations between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia that took place in Moscow, Prime Minister Pashinyan reminded that they have adopted a peace agenda and strategy, doing everything possible to implement this agenda.
“I must inform you that one of the topics discussed was the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and the illegal closure of the Lachin corridor; we have also discussed this topic with our Russian counterparts. I cannot say that the outcomes of this discussion are satisfying; we must note that this is a very unfortunate situation. I also had the public opportunity to say that the closure of the Lachin corridor happened in the presence and view of Russian peacekeepers, which is quite concerning. We will continue our discussions, including with our Russian partners, in order to resolve this situation,” Pashinyan stated.
He also mentioned that among the topics of discussion in Moscow was the opening of regional communications, stressing that the Armenian side is ready for the opening of these communications.
“We are talking about the communications emphasized in point 9 of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, and we are ready to expedite the reopening of these communications under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries. We made this emphasis clear. We are currently trying to work on the opening of railway infrastructure. However, I must also say that we are interested in opening regional communications, and we are demonstrating considerable flexibility in this regard. We have a flexible and constructive position and are ready to advance with the opening of these communications. I am convinced that when this happens, it will serve as another impetus for the economic development of Armenia. Unfortunately, the solution to this issue does not solely depend on us,” the Prime Minister concluded.
