Çavuşoğlu Does Not Expect EU Turkey Membership Process to be 'Revived'
Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has stated that he does not expect the EU's Turkey membership process to be 'revived' in the near future.
Turkey signed an Association Agreement with the EU in 1963 and applied for membership in 1987. However, accession negotiations only commenced in 2005 and have repeatedly stalled due to disagreements. Currently, 16 out of the 35 chapters of the negotiation dossier remain open.
