Peace Agreement Must Go Through Domestic Procedures Before Signing, Says MP
In a matter of seconds, a day, an hour, or during a negotiation, the signing, ratification, or coming into force of the document cannot occur. This was stated today during a press briefing by Vladimir Vardanyan, a member of the Civil Contract party.
He assured that the Peace Agreement must first undergo all necessary domestic procedures before it is signed. “First, the government must approve the signing of such a document, then the Constitutional Court must verify whether the obligations outlined therein are in accordance with the constitution, after which it must be presented to the National Assembly for ratification, and finally, it must be signed by the President of the Republic,” he said, adding that this is just his assumption, as all of this is required by constitutional norms.
He noted that a similar process must also be followed by Azerbaijan. It is worth mentioning that earlier, international media reported that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan may sign a peace agreement regarding Nagorno-Karabakh on June 1 at the European Political Community Summit in Moldova.
