Pashinyan Acts in Accordance with Baku's Politics: RHM Statement
The Union of Armenians of Russia is seriously concerned about the statements made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the so-called "peace agenda" on May 22 and 24.
"Armenians have been and remain a peaceful and creative people. Today, more than ever, we need peace and appropriate conditions for continuous development. Nevertheless, we are convinced that the current Prime Minister of Armenia, who lost in the 44-day war and in fact capitulated, has shown his inability to respond to the public insults coming from Aliyev's lips—even those directed personally at him. He cannot represent the Armenian state as an equal and dignified negotiator and protect the interests of the Armenian people," the statement reads.
According to the RHM, by echoing the official policies of Baku, Pashinyan’s actions methodically lead us not towards peace, but a new, more brutal war.
“Over the past five years, the lack of professionalism from Pashinyan's team has irreparably harmed the mechanisms of negotiation and expert assessment. This has led to the situation where the head of state declares the recognition of ‘86,600 sq. km of Azerbaijan by Armenia, including the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.’ In this case, he does not account for the fact that the signature of Pashinyan or anyone else beneath such a document cannot be considered legal, as there exists the Supreme Council of Armenia's resolution dated July 8, 1992, stating: ‘Any international or domestic document that lists the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan is deemed unacceptable for the Republic of Armenia.’
The RHM believes that the mandate obtained from voters, behind whom Prime Minister Pashinyan loves to hide, does not relate to such a fatal decision and does not give the country's highest official the right to ignore the constitution, as well as to treat people's fate and our historical territories, which have been inscribed in the blood of the descendants of the Armenian people for millennia, so casually.
The organization reminded Pashinyan of his own repeated statements and assurances that issues regarding the status of Nagorno-Karabakh would be resolved considering the opinion of the Armenian people. Nagorno-Karabakh, even if unrecognized, continues to exist as an independent state. The RHM has expressed its support for the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and the Russian peacekeepers, who are the only guarantors of the life and security of Armenians living there.
