Video: Zakharova Comments on Pashinyan’s Statement
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented during a weekly briefing on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement about being ready to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan.
“First of all, such a statement regarding the political vision of the state structure is the exclusive right of Armenia and its people. Secondly, Russia is a mediator in the Armenian-Azerbaijani reconciliation process, and in this regard, it is important for us to know the clear position of the state—in this case, Armenia—on this topic. This is not just a theme or an issue, but rather a long-standing conflict... Therefore, to move forward, including regarding the signed documents, it is necessary to know the state's clear position on this matter,” Zakharova stated.
According to her, the Russian Foreign Ministry views Pashinyan's readiness to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan as a confirmation of the Prague Statement based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration.
